Fire Safety: Urban Interface

Increasing dilemmas have occurred with the wildland urban interface. More and more people are moving to and building homes in rural unexplored areas. With this new territory comes the exposure to the wildland fires.

Wildland and Urban Interface Dilemma
Fires are a natural part of the worlds ecological system. It is required to maintain a healthy balance of the wildlife population and vegetation. Yet this same process can inflict great destruction to those living in urban interface areas.

Recent studies have shown that nearly 38.6 million people live in these wildland/urban areas. The balance and benefits of fire to the system will prove disastrous to those inhabitants. Although incidents of fire have decreased due to advancements in fire suppression

Scientist and geologist have been debating with this subject for years. It seems almost impossible to come to a solution that does not interfere or destroy either party. It will be interesting to see in the years to come further developments with the wildland urban interface.
